On Thursday morning the weather wasn't as nice as we'd hoped and the captain got bored. We decided to leave Kintbury and go on to Hungerford. On the way we met another boat whose owner said the 14 day mooring at Hungerford was full and the rest was 24 hour. We needed to be somewhere to receive visitors and take them out for a meal at the weekend and after Hungerford there is nothing for ages. Full of doubt we pottered on and then spotted a mooring spot just before Wire lock, a mile or so from Hungerford.

We nabbed it (decent moorings are so scarce on this canal it is ridiculous) and Jo cycled to Hungerford to scope it out. Thus a plan was made and we will stay here until Saturday morning and then make an early dash in the hope of grabbing a nice mooring in Hungerford to receive our Saturday visitors and take them to lunch at the John of Gaunt.
This mooring is right by the back entrance to Avington Manor, a huge and beautiful country house.
