Getting a wiggle on

Wednesday: 12 miles and 7 locks.

We stayed a few days in Thrupp. Robin and Scooby stayed on the boat and Jo went home - bus to Oxford and then trains with a rucksack like a student! She brought back the Women on Barges facebook group flag which had been sent home. It now flies proudly off the tiller pole. Who knows if we will meet another of the 2000+ members in the world on our travels, but if we do, they will recognise a fellow WOB!

We started sorting out employment for the winter and also arranged a winter mooring for Harold; St Mary's Marina on the Rufford branch of the Leeds & Liverpool canal. This is about 200 miles and 120 locks away. We have to be there by the end of September so we need to get a wiggle on!

It was a good day for making a start.

The canal was quite busy but we didn't have to wait at locks although there were usually others there to help. There was the odd near miss and grounding in a bridge hole or narrow stretch with on-comings. The water levels are down and progress a bit slow with our un-streamlined boat being awkward in the shallows. Lovely countryside as always here; lots of cow watching, a favourite occupation.

We stopped for the day at Kings Sutton. Scooby got spooked by an insect on his walk and after racing Robin back to the boat sat shivering on the bed requiring being fussed over.

Tomorrow we will stop in Banbury briefly and then continue our route march North.
