Thanks to the mooring gods.

12.5 miles and 4 locks

We set off after breakfast at the Dolphin (recommended by the lady who collected our mooring fee). It was hot when the sun was out and cold when it was in, and it went on and out every few minutes all day. We saw these lovely ladies early on:

There were some huge and very handsome houses along the way and we saw several different birds of prey. We also saw this swan (a single parent?) with no less than seven almost fully grown cygnets. Now that's efficient parenting!

Leaving Days lock we got a good view of the Wittenham clumps on the top of the hill, looking like a particularly modern haircut.

Three out of four of the locks were self service and we went through with various bits of Tupperware. We stayed on Harold firmly holding a rope at each end so he couldn't do damage to any of them!

As we approached Abingdon the familiar wonderings began about whether we would get a mooring and what was our plan B... Abingdon is a smart place, so smart it even tries to camouflage it's WPs.

After two false starts with spaces not quite long enough, we slipped into a spot right by the town park just as another narrow boat was leaving it. We said a hearty thank you to the mooring gods. After that it was walks and then a glass of something on the back of the boat. Eventually the clouds rolled in and we headed indoors for the rest of the evening.

Oxford tomorrow, if we can get a mooring!
